Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:4-7
Dear People of Saint Jacob Lutheran Church,
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ in the power of the life-giving Holy Spirit.
On March 16, 2020, at the regularly scheduled meeting of the council of Saint Jacob Lutheran Church, discussion was held and action was taken with regard to the Coronavirus and congregational activities.  Church council voted unanimously to cancel all church activities until further notice.  This situation will be revisited by church council on or before April 4, 2020.
This action was taken after a synod-wide conference call with Bishop Suzanne Dillahunt, members of the Southern Ohio Synod staff, health care professionals, and professional leaders from across the synod.   The call lasted for approximately one hour.  Bishop Dillahunt shared the following: "I strongly recommend that all congregations stop face-to-face worship for the next 8 weeks, in accordance with the latest CDC social distancing guidelines."
This action is both extreme and necessary.  We value corporate worship greatly.  We value community greatly.  I grieve deeply that we will not worship together face-to-face for an extended period of time.  We will seek ways to remain connected and share the good news of Jesus Christ our Lord.  We will be diligent in our efforts to care for one another in these trying times.  We will make it through this together because our God is with us -  the God who created all things, brings order out of chaos, brings hope where there is despair, brings life out of death.
What now?  I believe we need to be a people grounded in God's word, unceasing in our life of prayer, and relentless in caring for one another.  Let us be kind and patient with each other.  Let us be mindful of those in need.  Let us be creative in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.  God grant us wisdom, courage and compassion.
The Lord bless us and keep us and lead us to everlasting life.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor David Eidson
